The Village of New Boston Fire Department accepts applications and resumes any time through the year and at certain times post various positions with the local media. Applications can be picked up at the Chiefs office from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday or emailed to the fire department at www.newbostonfire@hotmail.org
The following are the recommended qualifications for :
Firefighter/ Trainee
18 years of age Valid Ohio driver’s license High school diploma or GED State of Ohio level II firefighter certification (preferred) State of Ohio EMS level basic or medic (preferred) Must be able to pass a physical exam standard set by the Ohio Police and Fire retirement board. Must complete and pass a thorough background investigation. Must reside inside Scioto County at the time of employment.
The Village of New Boston is a Drug free workplace and you must be able to pass a drug screen.
Applicants should be aware that successful completion of extensive formal and on-the-job training will be required during the initial probationary period of one year. Also, firefighters will work a 56-hour work schedule (24 hours on, 48 hours off). Schedules are subject to change.
Physical Condition/Visual Acuity – Must be physically capable of performing all essential functions of a firefighter. Must be free of any disqualifying medical condition that results in not being able to perform the essential functions of a firefighter. Must pass a thorough medical examination and an assessment of physical capabilities consistent with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) medical standards. Any final questions about a candidate’s physical condition, weight, capacity, vision, etc. will be resolved prior to appointment based on a recommendation provided by a doctor selected by the Village of New Boston.
